Magpie Tales August 5, 2010

Take my hand,
Come into the woods with me,
So much green,
Makes me dizzy,

Come into the woods with me,
The landscape I've grown used to
Is austere --like love.

Come into the woods with me,
So much green,
Is intoxicating to the desert dweller,

Come into the woods with me,
A place to hide
A place to play

Come into the woods with me,
Just for a little while,
Just for today.

I got the sense of a pending abduction, or the Pied Piper. Or evil elves. Or freaky faeries. A Grimm forest (like what I did there?).
At the same time, I find myself wanting to go to those woods...

Perhaps a spirit guide beguiling you with greenery, an uncertain future. Or...just a lovely walk in the woods away from the desert. Either way and interesting read.

Lovely poem... love the request from the unknown narrator... When I saw the photo on Magpie Tales I got the sense of the gardener having left in a hurry...

'The landscape I've grown used to
Is austere --like love.' No wonder you would like a 'place to play' but why 'just for today'? Lovely wistful poem.

So much green,
Is intoxicating to the desert dweller,

You connect well to the yearning we have inside and the power of nature to dispel.

"so much green makes me dizzy" paints a vivid mind picture.

The woods also sound very shadow-y and cool,,intoxicating, yes. and a welcome respite from out hot, hot summer.

Great Magpie. It's funny how we get used to our own landscapes. You would think the desert dweller would jump at a cool green journey to the woods, and not need coaxing

I picture the green of the woods as a cool drink of nature for the desert dweller. And I really like the last stanza. Nothing too permanent, just for today.

I see a hard at work gardener, suddenly stiffen at the whisper of his own inner voice, carried on a passing breeze, as he/she looks around to see if anyone is watching, as he/she gleefully runs off to play in a less cultivated garden.

love the image it brings to mind...of leaving our work and responsibilities behind just for a day to go play in the woods. A longing for frivolity and youth...
