March 9, 2012 Still Life #64

Still Life #64 24"x24 gouache on oriental paper

In Still Life #64, I am using intensity for the gradation. So the piece gradates from bright to dull, each way.

I have recently had a new brochure printed and have been sending them out. Which brings me to rejection,.... again.

“This manuscript of yours that has just come back from another editor is a precious package. Don't consider it rejected. Consider that you've addressed it 'to the editor who can appreciate my work' and it has simply come back stamped 'Not at this address'. Just keep looking for the right address.”
― Barbara Kingsolver

I like this quote, and will rewrite it for artists. "This painting of yours that has just been rejected is a precious painting. Don't consider it rejected. Consider that your've addressed it 'to the dealer, curator who can appreciate my work' and it has simply come back stamped, 'Not at this address'. Just keep looking for the right address."

this is the side of art that i can not personally abide. any art i do, i do now for the art itself, art as verb, not as noun. i simply can not understand the business side of art, and certainly with all of the addresses to choose from, it is a business. but, as you participate in the business side of art (i've not the fortitude or mind) this is the best attitude.

perhaps one day i might be otherwise.

and one day, your art, this art, will find the right address. your consistency and desire to follow this through is important.

I like this way of looking at it..... & maybe just maybe, one day, I will find the right address! It is just a matter of continuing to search.

A great quote Annell, and it is true in that out there is a person who will fall in love with your art, you just need to find his/her address! Yes!!!
Now, here is a suggestion for you. As you know I do like what you do but this one has an extra bit of interest. To me it suggests primitive European cave paintings. It might be the shapes and the graduated light or both, so it might get more attention if called (for example).
"Cave Painting Impression: Europe No1" (or 64).
That may lead you to to a doorway to commercial success. Remember Andy and his Campbells Tomato Soup labels!
The buying public needs a handle to grab. Give 'em one!
