My work as been accepted into Miniatures and more 2012.  I thought I was entering the "more" part, but told it was the "miniature" part.  I wasn't sure I could accomplish this work in miniature.  They are 12"x12".  The show is at the Albuquerque Museum October 19 to December 9, 2012, Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I wanted to do more so I could choose the three to enter.  Now I would like to ask you to help me choose.  Let's just call these #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5.  They are qouache on paper.

Tuesday June 26, 2012 Fragments III

Fragents III 22"x22"  gouache on watercolor paper

It has been a year, that I have been working on the new Still Life Series.  It seems time I look at something else.  I decided to look again at the Fragments II series.  And asked myself why did I stop doing that series, and then I remembered a dealer asked me to do "still life", and this began the journey to find a different image for still life, a contemporary way to look at still life.  I looked again at what I was doing.  Creating collage, and using that as the source for painting, pushing the idea of what a collage is and how we might use it.  I decided I wasn't really through with this idea, and this new series will be called Fragments III.  I want to call attention to the idea that our lives are made of fragments, parts and pieces, this includes thought and memory.  We don't remember things as a whole, but as parts, and sometimes these parts get mixed up with other parts and this makes up our lives.  As a woman it seems traditional that we attempt to make a "whole" out of many parts, we see this in quilts.

So now I begin a new journey, Fragments III.  I have no idea where it will take me.  I know I will visit many places I have never been.  Will meet new challanges.  I am excited about the new ideas that will appear as I work on this new series.

Still Life #80  12"x12"  gouache on oriental paper

I have been invited to show work in the Miniatures and More exhibition at the Albuquerque Museum.  The maximum size is 324 square inches including frame.  I didn't know if I could accomplish my new work in this size limitation?  After all we are always in love with the current project we are working on, and of course I wanted to show my new still life.  Well I did it, here it is!  I am very excited, and will do more in this smaller size.  Size is important to our work.  And I am planning a project of a piece that will be 24"x36".  It will be oil on panel.  The panel I ordered from Danial Smith, this will allow the graduation to be longer and maybe very interesting?  I have one more project before I can begin the painting in oil.
