October 26, 2013 Sunday Whirl #132

Fragments G&C #153   30"x30" gouache on w/c paper

Fragments of Squares and Triangles
Flames burn bright
In the corner
Kiva fire place
Winter is just
Arriving

Makes heart yearn
For other days
With weather
Still warm

Yet the warm fire
In the corner
Feels safe
When waking
On cold winter's
Morn

Feelings of the heart
Are immeasurable
Erode confidence
Make the world
Inky
A bend in the road
Difficult

Still the pebble
In my shoe
Causes me to slow down
While painting with clay
The squares and triangles
Drawn on the sheet
Before me

Note: I always like to work in winter, the landscape has lost it's bright color, except for the clear blue New Mexico sky.  I snuggle into the warm studio and spend my days at work, painting squares and triangles, investigating all possibilities.  The image is one of the last completed works.  My medium of choice is gouache, a paint made of clay.

Prompt: flames, yearn, immeasurable, safe, inky, bend
waking, still, erode, clay, sheet, pebble

Interesting about the gouache, Annell. I love the sound of your cozy studio where you are absorbed into all the possibilities.......thank heavens for that pebble in our shoes that help us to slow down and really see the scenery we are passing through.

Timely subject matter! The fire sounds like a lovely way to come to terms with the impending cold. A bend in the road is coming, alrighty!

Love your art. I can feel the warmth in your studio. I have a corner fireplace, too. Painting with clay sounds ancient and the right thing to do.

the pebble in the shoe is a nice touch...a reminder to bring us back with a little bit of uncomfortableness...its a nice contrast to the fire...when i lived outdoors fire was what kept us safe...and helped us make food...

That is a wonderful art-piece. I felt the comfort of fire during winters in your words. Lovely work!

The graduation of the colours certainly gave your 'Fragments G&C #153' movement and light which is so entrancing. Each season has it's merits and we need to enjoy them all (outside and in!).
