November 10, 2013 Writer's Digest/Poet's Pantry #175

Writer's Digest Day 10

Prompt: For today’s prompt, write a poem incorporating something sweet. Maybe a cake or pie. Possibly a candy bar or pixie stick (you know, that paper straw with delicious sugar inside–mmm). Or move it sweetly in another direction.

Sweet, Dark, and Scary
Something sweet
Something dark
Something scary
Have no idea
What this can be
It slides out from
Under the bed
Stands beside me
When I sleep
It beckons
It whispers
It laughs
It is scary

I have no plans for it
I know it will come again
I will turn my back
I will not acknowledge it
Something sweet
Something dark
Something scary

How confusing when the sweetest things can have the darkest whisper..i'd stick to Pixie sticks x

Whoa! Reminds me how terrified I used to be as a child of what lurked under the beds - or behind me on the stairs.

Anything that slides out from under the bed in the middle of the night is a scary thing!! (I fixed your incorrect link in Poetry Pantry....)

The monsters were never under the bed, but they definitely followed up the stairs…creepy this…may have to cut back on chocolate ; )
