January 8, 2014 Writer's Digest /Poets United

Writer’s Digest  Wednesday Poetry Prompts:  #249

For today’s prompt, take the phrase “This Is (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. So possible poem titles include: “This Is My Happy Face,” “This Is the End of the Line,” “This Is the Last Straw,” and so on.

This is It
And so it is
Hard to define
Sitting in the corner
Waiting to see
What it will be
The it of it
Sometimes even
Hard to see
Hard to know
Hard to say
And so it is
This is it
Note:  After all who can say what 'it' is?  But like art, we will know it when we see it.

Prompt:  Newness

Newness
What is new
All that
Isn’t old
It is brief
The unknown
The unvisited
The unexplored
The unkissed
In everyway
The virgin
The first time mine
Before long
What is new
Is old again

I love your very little but FAR reaching newness poem!

ha. that first one reminds me of a song Epic, by Faith No More...one lyric in the chorus is "it's it, what is it?"

it is what we make of it eh? smiles.

So true, Annell. Newness definitely doesn't last long. The next time a 'new' thing happens it is no longer new.

It is what it is... very nice and I love the second one as well. Nothing new under the sun, eh?

Sometimes I wonder if this is it...I thought it was before but it wasn't ... :)

I love how you make it so evocative and full of anticipation

I really like both of these! I like how you filled in the blank. Newness does wear off eventually. I like when my kids think a song is new until I break it to them that it's just a remake of an old one!

"before long what is new is old..." Such a cool poem about newness, kiddo.

This is particularly interesting to me..as my emotions truly reflected weather in a literal kind of way..most of my life..

They matched the human i was in real time..quite often in life...

But the thing i find now..at 53..is i am really a star..like the Sun and i can create my own weather too..internally..if ya will..

So even in the dead of winter..i am shorts and t shirts..and all of that..

AS the Sun that is STAR that is ME NOW

Generates all the energy and heat that is needed NOW..in totality of ALL..

i am

oh! and by the way!
happy new year 2 ya...:)
2!

I like both of these poems; the one for Poetic Asides and this one, "Newness" also...They are both exacting and to the point and I like that...well done.
