March 1, 2014 The Sunday Whirl/ The Last Thing/Poets United Poetry Pantry #191

Prompt: cage, fuel, assault, six, where, type
trigger, double, mercy, guess, easy, list

The Last Thing
Put six easy
Things on the list
Typed it neatly
Put fuel in the car
Double bubble
Toil and trouble
Mercy me
Oh my

The last thing
I did was to
Say goodbye
Farewell
Pulled the trigger
Left the cage
The door stands
Open now
The list undone
My guess is
It’s all...
    just as well
Mercy me
Oh my

I love the sense of making a plan..i guess the wonder is we do not know what is done..

There's certainly an air of finality about this poem. What a startling and unnerving conclusion, which, of course, is what you were aiming for.

Ooo-errr! You made me jump when the trigger got pulled! What an interesting and different take on the words.

There's so much to live for and the chores seem just ordinary ones. Shouldn't be too trigger happy though! Nicely annell!

I see (or read) the pulling of the trigger, not as a gun going off, but the sudden clear decision to leave after months, even years of contemplation. What need to do the things on the list, it's all over as one walks out the door for that final time. That final exclamation as one realizes one is actually doing it.

The trigger was waiting to be pulled. You left and the cage is empty. No more lists to finish. This is a starkly good write.

The last thing often becomes the first thing to start with on new adventure! Good luck!

This is a rather astounding write, my friend, from peaceful you! I echo Belva, a starkly good write.

Annell, the final stanza is pewerful. All things completed on the list. Nice use of metaphor with the trigger, which I didn't read as using a gun.

Whoa! You make that final act seem so simply done.

Better to leave those lists undone if they leave you feeling trapped in a cage!
