Ashes Ashes We All Fall Down

Writer's Digest  Prompt:  Something about TV

Do Not Trust What You See
Life can be so complicated
Relationships can be complicated
Even TV can be complicated
Reporters mislead
Tell lies
Make innuendoes
Never correct misstatements
TV is not to be trusted

dVerse  Prompt:  Around the World

Ashes Ashes We All Fall Down
Lost without you
You wait by the door
Your ashes in a box
Upon the black chair

Ashes ashes we all fall down

Throw ashes into the air
In celebration and gratitude
Release you in sorrow

Ashes ashes we all fall down

Return to earth
From which you came
Where you are is
Where I would like to be
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust

Ashes ashes we all fall down

Poets United #205  Prompt:  Light and Dark

Light and Dark
When it comes to death
How can I talk about
Light and dark

The light seems to be
On the distant horizon
Only darkness surrounds
In the shadows sorrow resides
Speaks to me in whispers

Death comes to the dying
Dressed in black
Can take any form
Be that of a beautiful
Young man
Young woman
Old man
Or woman
Perhaps your faithful dog
From long ago

Death is gentle
And only comes when
Life is not possible
Greet death when it comes
Death is not hateful
It is not about revenge
Death comes to
Take her children home
A gathering
Of all that was
And all that will be

whew...not sure i will ever look at that song the same again....your longing and pain come through...the wanting to follow them to that place...so hard life without them...hugs annell...i am glad you are still here...smiles.

Funny, I was thinking of a childhood game, children in a circle, holding hands, and you are right....singing. I walk through the shadow of the valley of death....and she is with me, holding my hand, like the children's game...and we will all fall down.

such sadness when all that remain are ashes... only one thing to long for, and that is something we cannot go... in such longing I think we still can find the next adventures...

What a poignantly beautiful series of poems, Annell. I can see him waiting there in the chair by the door, until you and he together decide on just the right place. In your third poem, I especially love "death is gentle and only comes when life is not possible." That is profoundly true, and is something I want to remember.

Poems come from many places I believe - external inspiration, a whim or an internal depth. having just lost a loved one and going through a flood of emotions I felt a sorrow and then a lift. There is shadow but not darkness.
Each poem lovely Annell

I read this as a series--the bizarre idea of spreading ashes, the complicated life, the gentle death.. I felt that the coming of death when life is no longer possible was the friendliest and most trustworthy thing, almost like a light shining in the darkness.

Ring-a-ring-a rosy
pocket full of posy
ashes-ashes-
in the English version there are no ashes.
Ring-a-ring o' roses,
A pocket full of posies,
A-tishoo! A-tishoo!

I never knew that the ashes in this nursery rhyme tied it to the Plague of 1665.

Like your idea of a ring of poems on the same theme.

Just back from the funeral of a young father. It's hard right now to see life as gentle, but in the grander scheme, of course it is a progression of living. Sometimes, we all fall down!

O, dear, hugs and bows to you...strong in your sorrow and wise in observing the life and death, light and dark....thank you for sharing with us xx

you have made sorrow so visual in the first one, another truth told in the second one...and in the last poem I like the peacefulness you speak about.... how beautifully you've made death seem so gentle and lead us to accept the fact that death comes when life is not possible...we have no choice...very profound...

I really like how you've woven in the child's rhyme and expanded on the "ashes, ashes" and the falling.

The progression through these poems is like processing..including an advertisement break..Perhaps it is better to imagine and make as beautiful as possible in your head where the person has gone rather than wanting to follow..when it is right i think we go to our own heavens..and there are all the people we love and need.. xo
