The Sunday Whirl/ Starry Starry Nights --Sunday's Whirligig/ TheMorning's First Light -- Poetry Pantry

Starry Starry Nights

fall           the loveliest time of the year                 without notice

it has slipped into place        all is visibly changing dressed in yellows

red and gold            nights are cooler        music floats onto the mesa

sounds of drums         heartbeat of the people            dancers practice

kick and spin                    magical nights                           celebrate

quietly preparations are being made              the level of activity is high

apple butter bubbles on the stove                         the kitchen a mess

memories of other years                                            bring deep sighs

fall is the season in between      extremes of hot summers and cold winters

a time of gratitude and anticipation                 cold clear starry starry nights

The Morning's First Light

the morning's first light       still                  quiet                          breathless

the native horses stand in the field as though painted by the artist's hand

along the railing                   motionless                                    their coats shining

catching the first light of day     dreaming of dancing      pow wow's prancing

singing poems                     today they         stand luxury apartments block the view

people at the windows          watching horses standing                all dreaming

in the morning's first light           still            quiet                         breathless

Vincent knew magic - as do you - there is great vibrancy to be found in in between times - as you find here too and paint for us xo

Oh those beautiful nights.. the inbetweens of nights when those sips of winter just can graze our lips... Love those drums here.

What a lovely light sprinkling of evocative words and phrases. Wonderful.

I love the season in between. We still have a lot of green, so I am looking forward to the change. There are just a few leaves ahead of the game. They make the trees look like they are fruiting.

Yes, fall is such a beautiful time of year. And it does seem like it is a time of high activity level...love 'apple butter bubbles on the stove' which seems to me so synonymous with the autumn. A time of gratitude AND appreciation - yes! Your poetry seems to be on a high note lately, Annell. Really a beautiful poem.

Two gloriously beautiful poems, my friend. Sorry, I am late in getting around, as always....I can picture your mesa, see your kitchen, hear the sigh thinking of other years. I love the horses dancing and prancing......and can almost hear the sound of the drums.

Yes, both are a delight although perhaps my favorite was "Morning's First Light" which I pictured so clearly.

Beautiful atmosphere in both poems. Love the idea of horses dreaming of dancing.

Once the speaker saw the horses, now only the apartment dwellers do. Something is wrong--so many things are wrong--in our world. Will the wrongs ever be righted? Perhaps in poems. Perhaps.
