Poets United Midweek Motif/You Are My Teacher

You Are My Teacher

yes more often than not                   when i wonder                  who you are

i realize                                             you are my teacher           my love

you have come to teach me             i have come to learn          the sky a new mexico blue

the clouds with silver linings           mountains dark blues        the landscape golden

touched with greens and red            the night time cool            the air fresh and clean

you sing to me                                  you lay it before me          sometimes i am slow to learn

i stumble                                           you break my heart           and stand laughing

it's all a big joke                               don't take it seriously         learn and turn the page

I love the switch from identifying the teacher to listing the detailed colors and coolness and even the moments of doubt. Turning the page and moving on! Oh, I've had to do that with those who came and went in my life, having taught and learned what they wished. It's harder in relationships that are closer than teacher/student, but somehow we survive.

If you have a teacher that laughs at you, I am sorry. That can be so eroding. That part really made me sad.

The first part, the realization they were a teacher and opening your eyes to the world. Love that.

I love the description of the desert - and your "learn and turn the page."

In life we live and we learn....from life itself and from the people we hold dear. Wonderfully written, thanks for sharing!

No teacher should ridicule a student but I know it happens. Those aren't the sorts that should be teaching. We don't always get what we need from the school system.

I once had a teacher that I was afraid of, it took me a long time to turn the page after that one

We learn so much from the ones we choose to love, and perhaps that is the major lesson to be learned in loving at all?

Even though I think much of life is a joke (and a not very funny one, at that), I am still learning and turning the page. Great write, Annell!

I think, when we keep coming to learn as you describe, what we learn is joy.
