End of Summer/dVerse -- open link

END OF SUMMER

where to begin             when searching for the end                  is the trailhead marked

the thunder rumbles     the sky darkens                                    black clouds above the mountains

rain spatters on the ground       last month of summer              summer is gobbled up

where does it go           against the sun’s last rays                      summer’s fun things

picnicking/hiking        out and about                           at summer’s end

the sunset takes our breath away           the color explodes        fishing on the lake

last cast…                    put the tackle away                   the temperature is cooler now

bring in the wood         get ready for the leaves to fall               trees take on skeletal form

a winter forest              sad and lonely              …the end comes too soon

Summer does end too soon. I was amazed how fast this last one has gone, but then it is still here.

Summer does end too fast. Even though the weather may be hot, fall is still different from summer. Excellent.

I enjoyed each word and line that make up the entire poem. Very intriguing to read, well done.

Love this.. and yes summer ends too soon... but in some areas there is a bliss to have an end to heat.

Summer ends before we know it. Powerfully written.

I lived for a time in a place where the summers ended too soon...where there were actual seasons. There's something to be said for experiencing such endings and beginnings, it adds a rhythm to life I think. You make it so palpable in your poem, Annell.

Summers do end, but not their timeless memories

Ever since I started reading your unique style and enjoying (poetically) the pieces you write in quilt and symmetry, they seem to become brighter as your work continues to excel. This was an excellent example.

"Where to begin... the end comes too soon" Oh, yes, it does and not just the summer... such a bittersweet poem

What an interesting form - it makes me want to experiment with it. It feels very natural in your hands!

I love experiencing those seasonal beginnings and endings, and when they are blurred and keep us guessing. In your poem, I especially love:
'summer is gobbled up';
'the sunset takes our breath away';
and
'trees take on skeletal form'.
