Money/ Poets United Midweek Motif

Money
A measure of worth
While money does not make us happy
We can be happy with money
But not when obsessed by it
I will give you an amount of money

In exchange for “something”
Money has value
But there are things
That are of greater value
Unfortunately money can lead to greed

Money is responsibility
If I have more
Than it is right for me to help others
I see you on the corner
You hold up your sign

“Out of work Mom with kids”
I know that my little money
Will not make a difference
But perhaps you and your children
Will not go to bed hungry tonight

So maybe I do make a difference
When I see you I will not look away
I will ask, is there anything I can do for you
As a way to say, thank you
You bless me, instead

I would rather you just say, thank you
Perhaps the sentiment is the same
And I say, thank you, for letting me help you
Money should be attracted to those in need

Looking someone in the eye is worth more than money at times..

Yes, yes, it is the money itself that should be drawn to those in need with us as conduits! That last line is stunning. I like so much the sense of inner monologue as the money moves the speaker into unfamiliar territory--its sights and sounds and expressions. We don't have to like it, just have to be willing. Good, good. Thank you.

Money should be attracted to those in need...I like this last line ending to your moving poem. Those with money should help the helpless. Not turning away is huge in this world where most seem to avert their eyes from the ugly, the poor, the aged, the foreign...This last line is incredible and so very true.

Money indeed should be to help others... not to enslave the owners of it. A good write.

Money means many things but it should not define us. Wise words.

I love this "Out of work Mom with kids” stanza. All the world wants today is money to be in good hands. Nice one.

I like this line: "And I say, thank you, for letting me help you" Sometimes gifts aren't accepted.

We should be charitable when we can. A nice reminder.
