BOMB SHELTERS/Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads

BOMB SHELTERS
We crawl under our desks, bomb shelters
As instructed
We take a deep breath
Some giggle
Some tears fall to the floor, bomb shelters
There are moments
Fear returns
Leaders exchange ugly words
Make threats
Hold hands, kiss and hug
Stumble from North to South, bomb shelters

I'm sure flights to bomb shelters would conjure up all sorts of ideas, especially for children.

I can't even begin to imagine hiding in a bomb shelter...but considered it when Trump and Kim were having 'words'

The semblance of the cold war is beginning to show at other fronts now as though the conflicts in the Middle East is not enough! Yes, frightening, annell!

I grew up in the 1950's, when bomb shelters and school Air Raid drills were common, due to the Cold War threat from the Soviet's. In elementary school, we practiced "safety precautions." A warning siren would sound, and we would file out to the hall, then "duck and cover," sitting crouched beside walls with our heads down. It was poor protection against a bomb.

The children today are living with the horrifying threat of shooters coming into their schools. I have no idea how we as a nation can protect them as long as the NRA has so much power. I feel like the world has gone mad. Your piece is very timely.
