New Beginnings Artists Book Project

Magpie Tales #

I am in love with books
I own too many
They are everywhere
I will never live long
Enough to read them
Because of this love affair
I have gotten interested in
Creating artists books

Artists books are not
Books about art
Rather art expressed
Through the book form
It is not a simple
Container for information

Instead a work of art
Where the content
And form are considered together
And are given equal significance
The goal is to involve
The reader actively
In the viewing process
Not only to see the
Words on the page

But to think about the words
Pictures and physical
Form of the object
The display of the artists
Book is difficult
Because the object both
Conceals and reveals

But ideas that can
Be expressed
Through the book form
Are endless

Man of Sorrow Artists Book Project

*note: I have completed several artists book projects. I like the idea of a project that can go beyond just the book itself. I get an idea, and think about it over time. I begin to work on illustrations for the books, and collect information for the book. I consider ideas about the form of the book. I have posted several images of my book projects.

Your book projects are definitely works of art, and exceedingly beautiful. It must give such satisfaction to create them and be surrounded by the finished result. Lovely, Annell.

Annell,

This almost reads like a mantra or prayer while telling the story of your book-art love affair. I was entranced. I, too, have wanted to make art books. You are doing it!
Bravo!

a sister spirit lover of books and art - what else is there - well, besides chocolate, that is - have myself been in such a love affair all my life with no intention of slowing down now - at one time my books lined one entire room floor to ceiling - i've culled a few as gifts since then, but the love remains no matter the number - and of art, well, i also have several bookshelves and cabinets that gently cradle my art supplies! very neat post, dear lady! have a great remainder of the day!

This is great. Makes me think of the Yeats line that educating is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.

You have some lovely ideas for book art. Intricate work but it must be incredibly satisfying.

Those two are great ideas.

I like what you say about what an artist book should be... yes, that´s what I try to do too (and would like to more often, actually - by combining paper + fabric, mostly...) - it´s poetic, your accordion, a poem unfolding (are the containers clay...?)
