Just Momets Before

  Memories/Just Moments Before

yes, memories can pierce

the heart like a frozen icicle

and yet, the daily things can

fall from the pocket we keep them in

another Friday            the exact day and the exact moment

remain forever as if in resin

turn it in your hand

look close

what do you see?  within the heart

flowers float on the water

the owl and the octopus

stroll the sandy shore

years separate

events tied with a fisherman’s knot

somewhere long ago

your life began

I told you I would come in the morning

you could not wait

your journey began

just moments before

in that quiet room

number 222

breath ceased

you are there and yet

no longer here

Things I Love

 Things I Love

you ask, what do you love?

my answer:

Morning greets each day

Be it sunshine, rain or snow

I love each one

 sun rises above the mountains

lowly lights day’s path

I make note

alone in the studio

working quietly

studio gets smaller

It isn’t what it used to be

I begin each day drawing

timed working left hand

on paper first

abstract shapes and lines

topped by a dash of realism

goal is to draw

an abstract drawing

finished, whole and complete

after drawing I paint

occasionally look up

landscape appears through window

fields of sage

the mountains

abstract sky

360 degrees

soft kitten

hot coffee

people, young and old

memories touched once, unforgotten

Western Boots

Western Boots

from my studio window

mountains to the south

veiled in a cloudy mist

to the north     Taos Mountain

Mother Mountain

sacred mountain

stands watch

a skull visible

on the side of the mountain

the little town below the mesa

a sleepy little town in Northern New Mexico

at night like a Christmas tree

lights sparkle in the darkness

Taos history of art and artists

who came for a new scene

a new landscape to paint

new colors, new people

two artists on the way to Mexico City

by wagon, a wheel broke just out of town

they flipped a coin

who would take the wheel for repair?

they loved the look of the place

they never made it to Mexico City

they stayed in Taos and founded

the Taos Society of Artists

Sharp, Blumenschein, and Phillips

most days the sun shines brightly

in winter     snow

the smell of piƱon smoke

from kiva fireplaces

Note:  This is a photo in my computer.  Since I am a techno-peasant, I don't know where it came from, or how it got there.   Or how to remove it?

From Flat Lands to Desert

From Flat Lands to Desert

to move or not to move

that is the question

we've been here

for such a long time

a place for everything

and everything in it's place

whatever it is

you can find it in the dark

I love my house

and hate to leave

but the memories

say, it is time

go west young

or not so young woman

follow the sun

as it settles on the horizon

land of enchantment beckones

I've been in the flat land by the sea

too long, time to leave

my new home waits for me

at the foot of the mountain

in the middle of the sage

we hardly know what we are doing

but it is what we must do

no reason to argue

it is what it will be

a new life in the desert for me

starting over isn't easy

I walk in the desert

cactus stickers hurt my toes

nothing soothes the pain
