The Deepest Connection
(The Artist in Her Studio)
Tap root
Dive deep
Dig down
Seek
Lights and darks
Colors on a wheel
Texture - smooth to rough
Line and such
Brights to dull
Shapes to delight
Dive deep
Hold on
Seek some more
Explore
Take a sounding
Mark four
Dig down
Risk it all
Satisfy the hunger
Clock's broke
Day's end
Without conclusion
Tomorrows a new day
Try again
Seek
The journey is long
Made up of days
A lifetime to be sure
Illusion of time stops
It seems you just get started
Rolling downhill
Sun sets in the west
Day's done
The sun rises
Begin again
Note: The question echoes in the brain, who is the one who makes the mark?
Yesterday while reading Anne Truitt's book, Turn. There were a couple of quotes that caught my eye.
"I am old in the ways of rejection and failure." Yes, any artist can say this.
And then..."I am always, and always will be, vulnerable to my own work, because by making visible what is most intimate to me I endow it with the objectivity that forces me to see it with utter, distinct clarity. A strange fate. I make a home for myself in my work, yet when I enter that home I know how flimsy a shelter I have wrought for my spirit. My vulnerability to my own life is irrefutable. Nor do I wish it to be otherwise, as vulnerability is a guardian of integrity."
Words of a painter about art, painting and other thoughts about life, death and things that get in the way. I began my blog 2010.

To Look or To See
When in conversation
I say, “Look”
I am asking
For your understanding
For you to hear me
To hear my words
Know their meaning
I want you to see
What I see
I want you to see me
To get down and
See right through me
Look into my heart
My soul
I wait for you
To see me
When Asked
I will answer “yes”
I saw it
I stood before it
My eyes in that direction
I thought I saw it
I continue to look
Time passes
I do not look
At something different
Yet, something changes
Perhaps it’s me
Suddenly I see
I Looked
A first impression
Was formed
I saw it all
Upon re-inspection
It seems I was blind
I did not see at all
To See
To see
Takes time
To look
But an instant

Sunday June 16, 2013 Fragments G&C #151
Fragments G&C #150 30"x30" gouache on w/c paper
I continue to try to figure out what I am doing. My ideas are fleeting. I know what this new work is about, small pieces, geometry and change; change of value, change of color, change of intensity, change of tempreature, etc. The work is a new form of Op and Color Field.
I learn with the execution of each piece...with each mistep, I learn. My ideas become ever clearer, though I still remain in a fog, never sure exactly what I want the viewer to see, nor where I am going.
I chart the direction for the next piece.
