A Piece of Yarn
i opened the
door startled a pair of fly catchers they flew in unison
a perfect
circle... then another before they flew skyward
i ride my weary
steed across rough ground we travel south
the sun already high
in the sky... sunrise /sunset how quickly go the days...
these words follow
me reminding me of their truth
is this the little
boy at play i don't remember growing older when did you
it seems only
yesterday you were small then... you went away
another
summer/fall/winter/spring happiness & tears
one season following
another i did not think i
could bear
yet loneliness & sorrow stand they are my
companions
i am learning to accept them...
sunrise/sunset swiftly
fly the years
blue pavilions rise
on the horizon... how to keep all that is past
is it like a piece
of yarn wound on a spool to be unwound later
to read the words
written there weave into the fabric that is my life
dry the tears of
yesterday... follow the scattered bread crumbs home

Timelessness, illusion, pain, change, freedom, and memories...some of the things I sensed in this wonderful piece. Well done!
A timeless quality runs through this beautiful poem..!
Well penned :D
I am glad that you are learning to walk with those companions. I dont know if there will ever be a time without them. They sure do grow up fast, and our time with them so fleating. It is hard to believe my boys are as old as they are. One in middle school now, and that will be over before you know it.
At times, life seems to be just a rapid series of blinks, gulps, & deep breaths, punctuated by a bridge of sighs. 6 grandchildren cluster around, reminding us that three daughters that became wives & mothers are now thirty-something.OMG, during which blink did that happen?
Hi Annell,
This is a lovely poem but it doesn't fit the prompt over at D'verse ~ I will be removing the link at D'verse but feel free to link up another poem with a focus on black and white ~ Thanks ~
And at home I am certain you'll find the fiddler on your roof helping you to sing your memories. Time flies. You say it much better in your poem--Time weaves and unravels and weaves again.
I don't remember growing older/when did you
Gah, for sure. For sure.
First time visiting. Your art work is amazing!
I love the visual form of your poetry.
Time flies in a jiffy................
It is so hard to follow those breadcrumbs home when we know that we are traveling in the opposite direction. No wonder those tears fall so freely.
blue pavilions rise on the horizon... Love this line it really makes you feel time. Great emotion
Time is a knot - full of emotions and experiences and places...most importantly people...it unravels easily..all too quickly and chaotically and yet perhaps when we find home we can best deflect the sorrows and loneliness...a beautiful tapestry of words xo
sunrise and sunset, both the images work so brilliantly to weave this yarn of joy, sorrow, flux and everything that life is....
This poem seems to encompass a whole life!
Still amazing on second reading!
Love the idea of piece of yarn, to follow, reminded me a "Fiddler on the roof", song "Sunset/sunrise"....enjoyed very much!
Yes, sunrise/sunset - the years march on; and it seems they march faster as time moves on. And indeed we see children getting older...but we are sometimes amazed at our own aging until we look in the mirror. I was moved by the tears &following the breadcrumbs home.
Back from Mid Week for another wonderful read....I so resonate with this poem - the passage of time - how quickly the little boy becomes a man.........."sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years". That's for sure. Beautifully done, my friend. One of your best.
This is so beautiful and very sad, especially the reference to the little boy. I am sure your grief is very much your companion at times. My heart is with you. You've written something exquisite here.
"i don't remember growing older when did you" ~ Such beautiful depiction of human life...we just move along with time.. summer/fall/winter/spring come back again and again...
Loved the depth of the poem. A beautiful piece of work. :)
Follow the bread crumbs home...that's a strong line that wraps up the mood of the poem so well.
This deserves a reread - several. well done.
Those flycatchers... we learn a lot from them, by watching and following their patterns of flight and alight.
Love the bread crumb reference.
Memories are easy to pick up and hard to lay back down.
