No You Cannot Go Home Again
When there is no home to return to
When everything is gone
Nothing left of what you would call home
No one you call family
No pets in sight
Where is home when there
Is no home to return to
The house is still there
On the same street where I lived
But it is not the same
Someone else lives there now
The front door hangs on its’ hinge
The hearth is cold
Your voice echoes
When you call for the ones you love
There maybe many places you call home
During a lifetime
When you move away
Leave home behind
When you return
You will find your friends are gone
No you cannot go home again

The World Upside Down
Poseidon a movie
Your life is not a movie
And it can be turned
Upside down
Wrong side out
Thrown to the curb
It can be the slightest thing
What to do but pick yourself up
Shake off the dust
Begin again
One step at a time
One day at a time
You will be disoriented
Lost even unto yourself
Look in the mirror
A stranger looks back at you
Hear yourself speak
The voice will not be familiar
Overnight you have become
Someone else
In an upside down world

Two really strong writes, Annell. I especially resonate with the first one........even when I go back to my beloved Tofino, it is different now that I am a visitor and not a resident. Sigh. Poignant image of the old house with the door off its hinges.
I loved them both especially the first one. I felt the deserted feeling!
