Sunday's Whirligig/ Elsewhere -- Poets United Poetry Pantry #258

Elsewhere

you say elsewhere       but where is elsewhere                  you say

anywhere but here       maybe over there                            or over there

to shop                          to be shopped                               days spent

over there shopping       the old records set on the curb      taken away

what an idea            you wanted them                 or are you talking about

the records of days           the clock in the hall ticks                 hands spin

someone keeps track         elsewhere                       sitting at the computer

time for you to go             or stay                             marks the calendar

collects the mail                 from the mailbox                        opens letters

one can run                         or walk                        there is no getting away

wherever you go              there you will be             that is the way of things

still you open the book          silently look for the answers           ...elsewhere

the little fly catcher         gently calls to his mate            as she sits on her nest

I always used to think 'anywhere but here'..but essentially you cannot leave or depart your thoughts, your being or your experiences - however dark they maybe..doing the everyday things..looking for 'answers'..some might call it unrealistic..i think it is necessary..a way of moving forward to the next morning and the one after that xo

We make the most of where we are it we will always be looking for elsewhere.

Yes!! We can try as we may to be 'anywhere but here' but we will always be wherever we go! Insightful in its simplicity.

A lot of depth in this incredible poem.. no doubt that we can never escape and go elsewhere..away from our troubles.. it would be better if we remained where we were and faced them head on! Beautifully executed :D

Lots of love,
Sanaa

I wonder if there is ever an elsewhere, if there is a somewhere to flee... I think even if we managed to find a new place we would still have something with us....

I think most of what we need to know is within us already. Yet, we seek elsewhere for answers. Good write Annell.

We really can't hide from ourselves...where we go there we are with all our baggage...wonderful write!

Yes, there is no getting away....there you will be. That definitely is the way things seem to work in this life.

I love the little flycatchers at the end of this poem, who have no problem just Being where they are.

Elsewhere is a constant thing to go to, after all the grass is greener on the other side. Great poem.

cool form ... love the weave of the poem and wondering where it will take me ... up and down .. left and right. The reflections guide the reader along the path ... from elsewhere to the nest

What an interesting concept.. and your words and phrases give much poetry and thought to the idea of 'elsewhere'
