Sunday's Whirligig/ A Different World-- Poets United/ Poets Pantry #259

A Different World

the world has reached its' tipping point                        we are told

it is the beginning of the 6th extinction

the people of the valley talk among themselves         shake their heads

in silence       look to the sky        count the days            look for signs

this day seems like the day before                                 we are told

we will run out of water

everything will be difficult            there will be nowhere for the people to take refuge

the beginning of the end has begun      questions hang in the air

the world will be different                      we are told this has happened before …

The world has certainly gone through several dramatic changes that ultimately changed hte way life was lived. I wonder if people are not looking forward to it, you know. We talk about it, predict it. Think Y2K, 2012. Of course they did not, but none the less, sold books and got people worried. I wonder. It will happen soon enough, but probably when no one is looking.

Hopefully, not again but it may take that for people to care for the Earth again.

Great write.

This reminds me of a movie I just watched (Tomorrowland). The question is.....how do we stop it?

We must strive to put an end to all the troubles that have come along our way and protect Earth in whatever way that we can! Well penned.

Lots of love,

I feel this poem especially, Annell. Half of western Canada is burning. Our forests caught fire last night. I awoke this morning to a yellow sky, a silent valley, the birds were silent, uncertain it was morning. I am saddened to my soul at what is happening across the planet. Your words are true. It has begun, in our lifetime. I studied all about it 35 years ago - our teacher explained everything that would happen, said things were already in place that would lead to it happening........people thought him mad back then. The only thing he got wrong is he thought it would happen sooner than it did. The planet gave us a chance to change the outcome. The governments of the world did not take it.

I had not heard that this is the beginnng of the 6th extinction. With all the changes in this world, most man made, it would not surprise me.

The world or maybe just humanity.. for sure life will be very different soon.. I still have hope, because we do understand what is happening.. there should be a possibility to change.

Yes it has happened before. What stories the dinosaurs could tell us. Yet still we would learn nothing from them as we are quite deaf and blind.

Agreed it has happened before...life will become extinct and it is our own fault....it is also told that it is a time of great enlightenment for those who are tuned in to it.

Toughtful and thought provoking, my friend. I am saddened by what we are doing to our home and wonder at those who ignore all the signs,

your poem takes me to the Jurassic age when the dinosaurs vanished...may be now it's our time...the uncanny note in the lines touch so deeply....

Contrasting the apathy and panic people feel about this great change was well done.
