October 16, 2016 Sunday's Whirligig #81/ The Sunday Whirl #270/ Poets United Poets Pantry/ In Search of Prince Charming

In Search of Prince Charming

draw a line in the sand      say you have reached your limit      perhaps that line fades

you draw another              settle down to breakfast                    early morning

bread in the skillet to fry      the butter spins/flips/and spits       kick old memories
                                                                                                             out of the way

clear a path for a new day      insulate yourself from the cold    don armor

pour a cup of tea                  set the table                                    with the fine porcelain

i stand on the rim                  look skyward                               lightening flashes

tuck desires back into my purse       mimic normal behavior             we are all flawed

from birth                          we try to slip into the glass slippers           an old story

only the girl whose feet fit        otherwise retrace your steps              go back to “go”

the ancestral trail is worn          prayer won't help                      you are who you are

the stage is set                     begin your day                        knowing your feet won't fit

Gosh golly--among the narrator's daily routines is "don armor, knowing she stands on the rim. And that if the shoe doesn't fit, we go on anyway. So it has been for me.

you have woven the Whirligig and the Wordle very well!
the result shines somewhat darkly, but I like it a lot.

Now that is life wisdom, to know our feet won't fit, and go on Walking! Love the fine China too.

So much to love - I left your breakfast table thinking it's rather special not to fit into those glass slippers... A real adventure requires a shoe that fits us and us alone..besides glass wouldn't get you far

Sigh, most don't have feet that will fit inside the glass slipper...but then again I think palace life must be over-rated anyway. Smiles. I see that the lesson in this poem is....be realistic with one's expectations.

Thank goodness my feet won't fit. That story has been told too many times already. Besides, one misstep and those glass slippers shatter and those feet are too bloody to walk anywhere... Personally, I prefer soft leather, it's much more forgiving,

There has always been something sad about the glass slipper story, like a short cut to success for a turned up nose, auburn hair, a cute smile or even a voice like a songbird. Glass slippers would be very uncomfortable so make your own way in this wide world for there will always be someone just right for each one of us.

its important to know one's self, i do agree. i read again, this time with my book club, Animal Farm by George Orwel; and had to remark to them that my favourite character was Mollie, for the same reason your poem themes today

much love

P.S. thanks for dropping in at my Sunday Standard this week

I love this post! I can't think of how many times I have gone out for a walk 'knowing my feet won't.'

Be yourself and don't worry if you don't fit someone else's ideals -- that is great.
