Safe
it is the thing we all desire
safety for ourselves
and for those we love
yet….where is it safe?
under the desk or table
and safe from what?
I think we would like to be safe
at the end of the day
we will return home
without worry or strife
or is it safety in relationship?
you will care for me
as I care for you
protect you from harm
there is much to fear
In this life
will bombs explode?
as we lie down to rest
you can never be sure
so we will take what safety
we can
live in the sunshine
feed the chickens
pet the dog
and snuggle the cat
that is enough

This is a lovely philosophy, and one I so agree with. When we cant control the big stuff, we can live within and appreciate our small circle of safety, and be thankful that we are fortunate enough to have it. Wonderful, Annell.
When we ask "where is it safe?" we really have no answer. Anything might happen anywhere. Yet we might "take what safety we can" and carry on with our own little life. The close is wonderful.
What a comforting poem, Annell! I’m always thankful to return home without worry or strife, and more than happy to:
‘live in the sunshine
feed the chickens
pet the dog
and snuggle the cat.’
Lovely poem. We cannot control the bigger picture only our little lives.
"at the end of the day / we will return home / without worry or strife"
That's it, isn't it? And it has to be enough to be with someone you love--if you have someone--because we can't control the bombs, etc. But it isn't quite enough. I can't imagine--luckily--living in a war zone.
It's true--the stuff of life, the little things, provide a sense of safety that the larger world fails to give us right now.
Annell,
I think that there's nothing better than feeling safe and comfortable within the walls of your own home.
Having the company of a loving pet, is an extra gift...
