March 20, 2014 We Write Poems #205/A Good Day in the Neighborhood

A Good Day in the Neighborhood
The sun sets in the West
And the horizon lights up
Neon light show natural
I lock the studio door
Day is done
You wait for me
We share a drink
Talk about poetry
Sometimes I read
Sometimes you do
We talk about art
Sometimes I show
Sometimes you do
How do you like it

(It includes
The assumption
That you do)

Is there something
You would change
We talk about it
We prepare
Something to eat
Last night
We cooked
Chicken
Spinach
Mashed potatoes

Later
A bath
Some TV
What has happened
In the world
On this day
Outside my
Neighborhood

Later still
We lock the doors
Lights out
We sleep
Knowing it has
Been a good day

March 19, 2014/ We Write Poems, Mid Week Prompt/ Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday!
Let’s celebrate today
No it’s not my birthday
And since we share birthdays
It’s not your's
But it’s someone’s
There are new arrivals
Everyday
What harm to light
A candle
Dance and sing
Bow in appreciation
Look around
Make a reconnaissance
See where you are
Let’s have a pink cake
And ice cream
With a cherry on top
Let’s celebrate
Happy Birthday

March 17, 2014 /We Write Poems #10 /The Sea Shore

The Sea Shore
Sometimes life
Is like walking
On eggshells
Take care
For fear of
The crunch

Sometimes I
Am thirsty
For lack of rain
Sound of drums
From the Pueblo
Fill hot
Desert air
Like angels
Chanting for relief

Sometimes storm
Clouds gather
In response
Rain drowns
The demons
Soaks their wings
Leaves them in
Puddles

Sometimes in
Summer along
Forest path
Discovery of
Honeysuckle
With its’
Sweet taste
On my tongue
Treasured memory
Of childhood

And sometimes
The blue of the
Desert sky
Warming the
Desert sands
Join in memory
With the blue
Of the bay
Seashells
Seaweed
Sea foam
Combine as in
A letter of blue
Tied with a ribbon
Help me to see
Where I have been...
And you

March 16, 2014 The Sunday Whirl/ Sunday Morning March 16, 2014/Poetry Pantry #193

plop, wicker, green, bottle, city, strips, small
apple, dust, tower, slack, squeeze, fuss

Sunday Morning, March 16, 2014
The day’s beginning
Still dark
The moon
Shines brightly
Lighting my way
To the studio
The sun still sleeping
Behind Taos Mountain
I left the wicker
Behind in the city
Where I was born

Without fuss
Came to this
Little New Mexico
Town, city of dust
Plopped myself down
And here I stay
No green as far
As I can see
Strips of paper
Filled with prayers
Hang slack
From the sage
Quietly waiting
For the winds
Of April

The ant towers
Remain like
Abandoned cities
Do ants hibernate
Like bears
Sleep away the
Winter months
Trapped inside
Like small boats
In a bottle
Hard to know
What goes on
Underground

In Between
I have discovered
It is not the ‘thing’
But what is in between
The transition
How we get from
Here to there
The bridge
To nowhere
Nothing you can hold
In your hand
Can’t even see it
Yet ...
It supports
The  ‘thing’
The ‘what' of it all
Which is not
Without what is
In between
