Coyote Roams Free
Black mountains
Sharp edge
Again the sky
Light grey
To cobalt blue
The village lights
Sparkle against
The snow
Coyote roams free
Scavenges whatever
Comes his way

Grandmothers
Sleep peacefully
Free at last
No worries of
Holidays
Only memories
Of days past
Decorate the tree
Bake the cookies
Lay the table
All responsibility
Fell to her
Worked
Morning to night
Nothing forgotten

With the joy of the
Holidays
Also the hurry
And flurry
No time to
Remember
Christmas past
Grand Parents
Parents
Aunts and Uncles
Cousins and such
It comes each year
Ready or not
Only coyote roams free

nice...love the cobalt blue... the village lights sparkling against the snow...such a visual image... and oh the loads of work that has to be done before a holiday can make it heavy... sometimes i just put on my coyote costume and roam a bit through the forest...piece of freedom...smiles

Coyote roam free... A lot of pressure with the holidays and family.. mostly gratitude that even though the responsability can be much those loved ones are in our life. Happy Thanksgiving .

Gorgeous opening verses. Yes, they really do come and go so quickly--holidays and loved ones both.

Lots of lovely concrete images, mingled with experiences that we have all shared too. I really enjoyed this.

Lovely. The comparison of the coyote to the family is beautiful. It captures the mixed feelings of the holiday season very well. Poignant.
