It Takes a Woman
It takes a woman to tell her story
Be she saint or sinner
It takes a woman to make a home
He gives her riches or poverty
It takes a woman to create a life on earth
Either crazy or sane
It takes a woman to protect against winter’s cold
On the frozen dry mesa
It takes a woman, when offered rope
To hang herself, her breath rasping in her throat
It takes a woman to clear the haze
Each day folded into another
Like the fresh sheets folded in the cupboard
It takes a woman to warm the frozen feet of the kitten
When he comes in from the cold
