November 7, 2013 Writers Digest/ We Write Poems #182

For today’s prompt, write a hardship poem. The hardship could be moving forward after a tragic loss, having to work through a difficult problem, or even just showing up to work. It can be serious, funny, or complicated.

Sail Away
When skies are blue
We'll board our boat
A teacup made for two
And sail away

We have known
Storms and rain
Drought and such
But now
We'll sail away

You'll wear your hat
I'll wear mine
Pulled down low
We'll board the cup
And sail away

As the wheel turns
We find the ocean dead
The butterfly trembles
Aboard our boat
We've sailed away

Note:  I am thinking,  we get through one difficult problem, only to find another.  It probably isn't about where we are, not geographical, wherever we go, there we are.

We write Poems:  Prompt bridges....

There is a bridge
That is very tall
Far above the water
Small
It spans a crack
In the earth
Ripped long ago
A rift

If incase your ego
Grows and your hat
Fits no more
You go to that bridge
And you’ll feel small
The earth is grand indeed

Or if life gets too hard
And you want it to be over
Go to that bridge
It is calling you
And if you jump
It will all be over
There is no coming back

Note:  It is the Rio Grand Gorge Bridge in Taos, New Mexico.  Many people go just to look, but many people go to end it all.

November 3, 2013 Nov Pad Challenge Writers Digest

Nov Pad Challenge Nov 3  Writers Digest  Prompt:  A poem about "the last time I was here."

I was here the last time
Or...the last time I was here

Golden grasses dried in the field
Trees stand bare
The COLOR of autumn is gone
Clouds bank against the mountains
The sun shines through
Broken gray and scattered blue
Horses in the field
Nibbling last bits of green

End of autumn
Signals winter is on the way

And it was here
The coyote died
Dark night
He appeared
As if by magic
The cruel wheels
Stopped him in his tracks
An ending in an instant
We took a breath
Began again
But I can never pass here
Without remembering him

I look in the rear view mirror
The highway is empty

Down into the canyon
New snow under the sagebrush
Landscape ahead
A painting
The beginning of time
Life is full
Of beginnings and endings

In the canyon
There are trees
Still with glorious color
Yellow and orange
Oh my....
It takes my breath away
Shangri-La
All else is grayed
The sky overcast
Tiny slivers of blue
Cerulean and cobalt

The Here of Yesterday
Is there a difference...
The here of yesterday
The here of now
Strung together
Like shiny beads
All one

Yesterday and today

Whisperings of the Heart

The possibilities
Are infinite
Listen to
The whisperings
Of your own heart
There is a rhythm
That will fit
You like
Cinderella's shoe

Your impulse
Will be to pull
You feet from
The shoes
But wait...
Only after
You have walked
A long distance
Will you know

The invisible
Will become visible
Open your hands
Release the fists
You are precisely
Where you need
To be

Kneel down
Give thanks
You will hit upon
The creation
That is your's alone
The one you
Have been looking for

Note:  The words carried me along like a fairy tale.

Prompt:  infinite, hit, invisible, emits, rhythm, impulse,
distance, kneel, creation, whisperings, fists, precise

Prompt:  "News of the Day"

"News of the Day"

So far
This day remains
Silent
There is no
"News of the Day"

The paper hasn't come
The TV is not turned on
Nor the radio
There is no
"News of the Day"

The mail hasn't arrived
No letter from you
No email
So I sit silent
Waiting
For the
"News of the Day"

For today’s prompt, write an appearing poem.

Fragments G&C  #165  30"x30" gouache on w/c paper

Waitng for the Image to Appear
It is early
Still dark outside
The minutes tick
The hands move
Slowly around the
Face of the clock

I arrive
Without an idea
Empty
And yet I have
Intention

The plane is white
Like unblimished
Snow
I make a plan
Set a goal

It is necessary
If I ever hope to
Cross the finish line
I must begin the
Race

Knowing
Nothing
Of importance
Happens quickly
There will be
Days when I will
Wonder
What is it
How will it look
And I will long
For the finished
Image

All the while
As I work
Days pass
Trying to remember
The best part
Will be the journey
Not the destination
The same
As in life
