Spare Time: all that is left.../ The Sunday Whirl -- Poets United Poets Pantry

Spare Time:  all that is left…

time is short                 important                                 bad feelings

should not trample the day       make it count               as time left

is downhill all the way    sand running through the hourglass   none to spare

until this time               this spare time              has been an uphill journey

was there a ransom asked         a ransom paid              keep your pen moving

create the tale                           the last chapter             run your fingers across the page

collect words in your basket     protect them from the rain       the ink will run dangerously

ideas will smudge         and will be soon forgotten        with words packed densely

return to that last chapter          make it the best            of all the rest

the band plays your favorite tune         just a little off-key        take aim

and release the arrow   there is still plenty of time        to laugh and play

and even walk in the rain         the sun rises each morning       brings magic to the world

the cat licks his fur       gets ready for the day               the spare time that is our time

count each grain of sand          notice how the grains stick between your fingers

feel the sun on your back         write it down                make no changes

A Happy Accident/ The Sunday Whirl --Snow at Last/Sunday's Whirligig --Poets United

A Happy Accident

Is it now           as it was in the beginning          all a happy accident

or intelligent design      someone’s song            matched perfectly

to the sound of the garden chime         all irregularities soothed over

a plethora of variety     each groove endless     nothing final

change is everywhere   each moment unique    and each has its own void

the sponge itself           creature of the sea        created for its own special purpose

its shape                       size and color               not to be confused with vinyl

none are without interest          each one unique

 Snow at Last

The snow that welcomes winter            is at last here    covers everything

In a glittery blanket          all is new again         it has been a long time coming this year

My breath freezes before me    the windows are frosted           looks like a mirage

I am under its wintery              white spell        mornings gentle breeze whisper

Winter secrets              bear has already entered his cave          hibernates

Last night’s moon         encircled by silver wreath         my footprints deep in the snow

Trees/Imaginary gardens with Real Toads

Trees
trees provide shade                  for the weary traveler  on a hot summer afternoon

they stand up-right                   just like humans                       as the seasons change

they change                              what they are wearing   they color the landscape

they are always calm                 never in a hurry                       if you want to chat

they always have time for you  they are especially good listeners

and like good children they usually remain                  where you left them

as a child                                  i loved to climb into them        from that vantage point

i could see the whole wide world         curl up for a nap          birds love to perch in them

it is where they build their nests            trees make good neighbors
