MY HAPPINESS...MY SON/Poets United Midweek Motif/happiness

MY HAPPINESS…MY SON

What is happiness after all
New beginnings can be
When anything is possible
A birth brand new
Children at play
Laughter in the air

A home of your own
A little piece of heaven
Gardens bloom azaleas
Morning greets spring
Honeysuckle in the air

There is seldom happiness
In saying goodbye
To the ones you love
The world seems empty
Like the game of hide and seek

Life slows down
As we near the end
The days are longer
The nights are too

The race you may not win
But stick with it
You will reach the end
No matter the place
Without reward
It is your job
Your life complete

Your friends will say
Job will done
Like the postman
Rain or snow
I will remember you always
My happiness…my son

My Bones/Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads

MY BONES

The structure of my being
The hardest part of me
Hold me upright
Like the horns that protrude
From my forehead
Above my eyebrows
Act as antenna

I hold you in my hand
I listen to your song
Others might say
You are but an old bone
Lying on the desert floor
Bleached white
Sparkling in the sun
No use to anyone

Still I know you
You resonate
With the bones
Inside of me
The sound of a bell
Clear and pure
Floats across the mesa
You belonged to someone
Long ago
You are no use them any more
Your history is my own

dVerse/ Compassion Haibun

It was late summer, or you could say autumn, that little space in between summer and fall.   The leaves were turning from green to yellow and orange.   There was a slight chill in the air. The streets crowded with all kinds of humanity. More like a zoo than a city street. A grandmother with pasties and a little bikini, of stars and stripes, clutching her guitar.  Her son held her arm as though he was afraid she might get lost. Mickey and Minnie were there too. Bunnies everywhere exposed boobs and little panties.  A young woman with a tiny kitten, not more than a day old.   A strange collection indeed.

The city street was jammed
A strange collection of humanity
A hint of winter in the air

LIFE IS SIMPLE/The Sunday Whirl -- Poets United Poets Pantry

LIFE IS SIMPLE

Life is simple
Or so she said
The days like beads
On a string
Polished to a sheen

Life is a game
Children play best
Many grown ups
Have forgotten
How to play
No time for recess

Life is a worn shirt
She mends the seam
Ticks off the list
Of things to be done
That day

Life is the sound you hear
When walking in tall grass
The diamond-back rattles his tail
Still you continue unafraid

Life is the main beam
In the barn
The roofline sags
Like the back of the
Old horse in the field
Fasten the gate behind you

You say, life isn’t so simple
For everyone
You went for waffles
After the prom
Beaten by police
Your face on TV
Much of life depends
On your race
