TAOS PUEBLO ON CHRISTMAS DAY
i seek answers reflect on the questions search the shadows
on sunny days a young man offers a penny for my thoughts
is a penny enough for thoughts that shoot through the sky like stars
begin and end like loops of hair a fancy do
or silent like a stone laying bare in the garden on Christmas day
smoke from the fires circles the dancers a bag of charms hang from their waist
the skins from foxes hang down their backs there is no band to play
only drums maybe a flute and the sound of bells
a serious occasion no laughter from the dancers brown feathers in their hair

I love the exotic atmosphere. It's almost like a painting canvas. Beautiful.
Ah, we create our memory of so many things, sounds ...so then it's possible (or not?) to invent a new symphony, fantasy for life's happiness and joy...
A very vivid and delightful read, with a magical feel to it. Warm greetings to you.
Thank you for sharing a really good read.
humbird, you are so right, memory made of "things, sounds, and the unknown"...we can't really name it, yet we remember. I like that you suggest we invent a "new symphony or fantasy" and it will bring "happiness and joy." Thank you so much for your comments.
Thank you so much Blogoratti. I offered this write with much tripidation. So unsure was I, and yet, you say such kind things, I hope you did enjoy the read.
You transported me to some mysterious tribal dance, and made me wish I were there!
What an amazing experience captured beautifully in your words.....
This is so gorgeous. I can see it all, the dancers, the feathers and fur....I can almost hear the drums and the sound of bells. I would LOVE to attend such a gathering.
Well! That was provocative and interesting, to say the least.
I so enjoy reading you.

Ah, this takes me back. My husband and I attended the deer dance at the Taos Pueblo one Christmas Day several years ago. A perfect way to celebrate the holiday!
Beautiful! :)
Lovely imagery of Christmas Day, Annell. And to think it is only four months away!
There is a pognandy here in the act of remembering - it made me feel a little sad but also wrapped up in your words
What vivid pictures you paint in the readers mind with this poem.
The answers may lie in such common things as brown feathers, the sound of bells, and smoke from fires. Or they may not. But the answers we seek will come to us in ways that we can understand (mostly), and they will come when we need them most (I hope).
