The Sunday Whirl/In the Beginning, I Wrote Your Name on the Sidewalk -- Poets United Poets Pantry

In the Beginning, I Wrote Your Name on the Sidewalk

it was a chance meeting          in the beginning                                     there were no promises

no special celebrations             no rituals                            instead we celebrated each moment

i spoke first                              feelings were deep                                we set sail

destination unknown                we left the door open                           just in case

it’s been a good run                  and after 20 years                                 destination still unknown

we are not puppets                   on strings                                             but real live humans

we take a seat at the bar            touch our glasses                                  we offer a salute

we navigate by the stars            falling stars are best                              the moments become days

and days become months         then years                                             one by one

we collect them                        in a mason jar                          paste them into scrapbooks

circle numbers on the calendar             with chalk                    i write your name on the sidewalk

How beautiful. And how fortunate when two souls find each other and live such a story of golden moments. I love "we navigate by the stars / falling stars are best." Congrats on twenty wonderful, shared years.

Wow! Loved it Annell.
Especially 'falling stars are best'

20 years! Congratulations

We are at 7. And it's fascinating, yes the destination is still unknown

Yes, that is the way it is. Moments become days, days become years. Life is a wonderful journey, and we navigate it (by the stars) the best we can....making choices and collecting memories. Congrats on 20 years!

Wow! You know how I read your style/work... this one worked out incredible... vertically as well as horizontally! I read it with enjoyment and excited with the style's created suspense to move on to the next row/space.
It was endearing and sweetly expressed. (In my opinion, of course : )

I like that there were no special celebrations,
but that you celebrated each moment.

If we realize how much of a gift each moment is,
then I think we appreciate each one all the more.

At some point we start putting expectations on life,
on each moment and then it leads to disappointment.

Fun little tidbits of your story here.
Congrats on 20 years.

I love all those moments... there is nothing wrong with habits if they are as good as these.

What a beautiful poem to celebrate youir togetherness. However there is sdaness too between the lines and who can have lived a full life without that for doesn't that makes us the person we are too?

I think that the form, here, works particularly well with the content. There is a kind of 'delicacy' {for lack of a better word} to all relationships - that work - and this piece really captures that on so many levels. Congratulations on 20 years!

Even after so many years romance can still be remembered like it was just yesterday! Your unique posting style is always so brilliant, annell! Must have gone through lots of thinking!
