Spare Time: all that is left.../ The Sunday Whirl -- Poets United Poets Pantry

Spare Time:  all that is left…

time is short                 important                                 bad feelings

should not trample the day       make it count               as time left

is downhill all the way    sand running through the hourglass   none to spare

until this time               this spare time              has been an uphill journey

was there a ransom asked         a ransom paid              keep your pen moving

create the tale                           the last chapter             run your fingers across the page

collect words in your basket     protect them from the rain       the ink will run dangerously

ideas will smudge         and will be soon forgotten        with words packed densely

return to that last chapter          make it the best            of all the rest

the band plays your favorite tune         just a little off-key        take aim

and release the arrow   there is still plenty of time        to laugh and play

and even walk in the rain         the sun rises each morning       brings magic to the world

the cat licks his fur       gets ready for the day               the spare time that is our time

count each grain of sand          notice how the grains stick between your fingers

feel the sun on your back         write it down                make no changes

Beautiful and a deep wading poem. I really enjoyed the lines about ink in the rain. I've been thinking about time a lot.

You have captured exactly the feeling that tme is short, there is none to waste, we must make it count. I am writing as fast as I can, as I know you are painting. We will leave behind our body of work to explain to anyone who cares to know who we were while we were here. Smiles. I love this poem! I am LIVING this poem! I love the cat cleaning his whiskers!

I have such feeling of just existing when reading your poem... maybe days like this is what we need the most.

Your words just carried me along in a most positive way. No great drama or burst of wonderfulness, just a gentle unfolding. Loved it!

Yes, bad feelings should not trample the day. Sometimes it is better to write them out than to speak them or let them fester. Your words carry me from one feeling to another, all related. Your words are a journey.

I'm the one that should be writing about sand running through the hourglass Annell! However you last clause/verse satisfied me after all!

This has an intriguing stream of consciousness vibe to it that - unlike a lot of stream of consciousness pieces - moves in a direction ... rather like, being in the moment - while, at the same time, appreciating that time is not infinite. An awesome job on this!

Love how your thoughts run, effortlessly. A wonderfully affirmative attitude to life.

Yesterday, I found a grain of coffee bean between my cheek and gum. I fished it out and rolled with thumb and forefinger and thought about it. Now your great poem and the grain of sand and I feel it was written just for me. I am running my finger over your words and gathering them in my basket!
