THE GOD OF RAIN/imaginary gardens with real toads

THE GOD OF RAIN

Rain is as common
To our world
As the sun
That rises
Each morning

Yet, sometimes
Many days, months…
Even years pass
Rain doesn’t come
Clouds form on the horizon
The sky a lovely shade of grey
The day passes
As dry as bleached bones
Laying on the desert flour

The First people
Have ceremonies
To bring rain
They sing and dance
Shake their rattles and prey

Rain makes everything
An adventure
Cross the street
On slippery pavement
Jumping puddles

Meeting a lover
Cozy inside
Safe and warm
Knowing the God of Rain
Has cried for his people

THE WHEEL IS SILENTLY STILL/poets united midweek motif/running

THE WHEEL IS SILENTLY STILL

There was a time in my life
I was the guinea pig
Running in the wheel
So much to do

Over time
I have slowed down
I focus on what is important
I give it the time needed
I resent all that takes me from
The studio

My life is focused
Sometimes I feel I am
A lighthouse keeper
Alone in the tower
Looking at the world
I can see in the distance
The future appears
The past is silent

I am at home
Here on the mesa
The sun rises
And the sun sets
The wheel no longer spins
There is no more running

WHO AM I/imaginary gardens with real toads

WHO AM I

I am a gatherer of words
I fill my basket daily
Always looking for
Associations and descriptions
To define this world
I live in

I have been told
I am a master of color
But what does that mean
Color like words
Defines this world
Color is everywhere
And so sociable

Color is never
Found alone
Rather in groups
Like gangs reaching for me
I wear a cheery smile
A mask to hide
My sadness

No, mine is not greater
But it is a crack
Deep into my crust
I relate to the earth
Millions of years old
Tired and worn
And yet we both continue

I sing my song
Like the song of the whale
I am not finished
A work in progress

THE SEPARATION OF DAYS/imaginary gardens with read toads

THE SEPARATION OF DAYS

This morning finds me
As though I have been away
For a very long time
Perhaps days are separated
By nighttime dreams
Other worlds
Lived in the underground
The darkness

I have the feeling of returning
I sit in my chair
It feels like my chair
But it feels as if
I have not sat here
For a very long time

I am changed
I am not the same
Something has released me
I have done my very best
Turned the negative
Into a positive phrase
I remember all the ports
In which we have stopped

All the people we have met
The ones who offered a hand
It has been so long since rain
There was a thought
Would we all burn to a crisp?
Another helicopter flies overhead
The smoke is less this morning

Since it rained yesterday
Perhaps the fire is less
The summer has just begun
And before it ends
Without more rain
Perhaps we will burn to a crisp

COBBLESTONES USED FOR REPAIR/dVerse

De at dVerse has asked us to use the word "cobblestone," in a quadrille  My exact 44 words are:

COBBLESTONES USED FOR REPAIR

Though cobblestones are not used primarily in the construction of buildings, they were often used to build and repair streets, creating very organic streets.  Hard to walk on.   When the heart is broken, cobblestones might be used for repairs, but duct-tape might be better.
