You Draw Your Sword/imaginary gardens with real toads

You Draw Your Sword

I try to capture the scene
My camera at the ready
You won’t keep still
Constantly moving

Constantly drawing your sword
Challenging thought
Causing a scene
You love conflict

It seems everyday
For the past two years
You seek the limelight
As if anyone could ignore you

Churn the waters
Muddy the view
Cause anxiety
And like a child you always need more

In Love, With Deep Colors/the sunday whirl -- Poets United poets pantry

Intersections  4/13  10"x10"  Flashe

In Love, With Deep Colors
At first, I didn’t notice the chill
The fire burned in the fireplace
The flames twisting around the logs
Filled the room with the warmth

Of wishes fulfilled
It is that time again
Frost covers the trees
The time of magic is upon us

I find myself slipping
Into that “in-between time”
One year ending
The next about to begin

There is a certain shock
That is the ending of this year
And yet, I feel I hardly know you
Still, these are the final days

There is a certain dread
Of the coming year
Will it be a time
Of mending old wounds

New ideas
New ways of doing things
Will new people fill the empty chairs
Will there be a new lift in my step

Will I be more flexible
Or will I see the world
Through a glass darkly
...I do love the deep colors

Imaginary gardens with real toads

Sometimes big things happen. Your life is changed in a flash. There is no beginning, no end.  You will continue to live, to breath, in and out.  Yet nothing is as it was before, perhaps there is a hurricane, a flood, your house burns down, or a thousand other calamites that could happen.  It is nothing personal, it just happens.

Your world has turned gray, all the color has drained away. Was it all written long ago. Destiny wins out.

I might say
If only I knew
Things would be different
…but would they?

In the Cold of Morning...Mourning/imaginary gardens with real toads

In the Cold of Morning…Mourning

A spell of magic broken
Darkness is banished
To hide in gloomy shadows
Dreams persist

Like patches of snow
Hiding under the sage brush
Long after all the other snow
Has melted

In clear light of morning
Like a crystal bell ringing
Across the desert
The vibrations of sound

Travel far in the desert
The sun warms the morning
And the cold heart
Also found under the sage

Still beating
Barely beating
Waiting for twilight
Waiting for your return

Snow-Days in November/imaginary gardens with real toads

Snow-Days in November

November is almost over
The door for its leaving
And for December’s coming
Is open

The days are colder now
But mostly the sun shines
The weather still mild
Twice we have seen

The magic of snow
The transformation of
The landscape
Wrapped in winter white

No snowball fights with you
There was only one time
And you covered me completely
I choose my battles

And don’t enter
Into ones I can’t win
You are far too experienced
Still a boy with a powerful arm
