The Everglades/Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads

The Everglades

I have never been to the everglades
Therefore the everglades remain
A mystical place for me
Inhabited by creatures I do not know

A place I have only heard of
Gators and crocks
Egrets, Herons and king fishers
Live in the neighborhood

Not ocean or land
A meeting place for all
Life’s bounty begins there
Snakes and spiders play all day

A place of fear for man
Not ocean or land or sea
You might say
A place to get away

I went to everglades a few years ago... (in winter) and it was fascinating to rent a canoe and go deep into the marshes.

Lets hope man does stay away - if he doesn't he will probably destroy it.

The Everglades intrigue me too, Annell. It would be amazing to see it. I love the images in your poem. Thanks for linking!

I've never been there either, Annell, and imagine I will only ever experience it on TV or in films, so I agree that it's a mystical place inhabited by 'Gators and crocks', although I am familiar with egrets, herons and king fishers - we have plenty of them on the Norfolk Broads which, although smaller, is quite similar to the Everglades, just not quite so dangerous.

The Everglades to me, mean unspoiled places that must be kept as they are. Lovely, Annell.
