Give Us This Day to Begin Again.../Poets United -- Midweek Motif/ Beginnings

Give Us This Day to Begin Again…

Oh, how tempting
The idea of starting over
No more mistakes
No more sins

The lies erased
Integrity rules
Give us this day
We begin again

We look in the mirror
We have grown old
Can we “be born again”
A baby to hold

I am confused
Where is the beginning
Where to look
Where are we now

Is it the middle
Or closer to the end
And on our last day
Will we be at the beginning

Or is it simply a new way to think
A new attitude
Washed in the sink
Hung out to dry

Is the beginning
Laundry day
All fresh with the scent of sunshine
Give us this day to begin again

Our friend had a new begging within two weeks of her death. She missed a lot but gained sooo much more. Thank you for your refreshing post.

I think mornings are one of God's most wonderful inventions, an eternal beginning again.........loved your poem, my friend.

How tempting to start again, more so when we have the opportunity to do so! I like how your poem brings to the fore so many things we can improve and gain by starting over.

I love it when the sun oozes from the clouds, it reminds me of new beginnings. Lovely poem!

Laundry day! What a way to resolve the paradox you put into words so well! "All fresh with the scent of sunshine"--the extended comparison will stick with me as will your refrain.

I love this poem so much, Annell. Today, I was talking to a friend who asked me how exactly do I marked a new beginning. I told her, "Beginnings start on the 13th." She gave me a funny look and told that made no sense. I said, "Exactly."

So, yep, the beginning is laundry day and the 13th and yesterday at 3pm...

...and everyday, when we choose.

"All fresh with the scent of sunshine / Give us this day to begin again" How lovely! And how lucky we are to have such a day everyday!

Ah yes "give us this day" what a wonderful gift this ability to plead on awakening. And it is alright to be confused for isnt it a journey, not a standstill

Happy New Year Annell

Much🎉love
