Once Upon a Time/dVerse

Once Upon a Time

Which time am I speaking of
Your time
Behind time
On Time
Lost time

Before time
Slow time
Quick time
Or my time

The empty shell
That once held time
Left alone on the sand
The waves wash over

Silent time
The color gray
We gently shake it
No response

The time about which I speak
Is the silence after
No one to explain
What has happened

Why the sky is gray
No one answers your phone
Like the shell
The world is empty without you

So glad you posted to the prompt.
These words:
"The time about which I speak
Is the silence after"
are definitely words to ponder.

Very original take on the prompt. I like how you pose the question and then give the response.

The last two lines speak deeply of the emptiness and the loss of one beloved

Nice last two lines about the empty shell.

Loss does turn the world gray. Oh your ending perfectly describes the silence that comes when someone leaves us. I still have my parent's phone number on my phone. I will never call it again, but I just get let go of it. Thank you so much for taking part in the prompt.

I also have that emptiness eight years after my own wife died. I don't think I will ever lose that feeling.

I lost my beloved brother-in-law last week, your lovely poetry struck a chord.

I love the way you explore time in your poem, Annell: the repetition, the different kinds of time, and especially:
'The empty shell
That once held time
Left alone on the sand
The waves wash over'.
And how I felt the emptiness of the final stanza!

Thank you Old Egg. The loss will always be with us, the sorrow as well. How can we ever "get over" the loss?
