A Picnic/poets united

A Picnic

Life is but a picnic
Eating out of doors
Spread a blanket on the ground
Fill your plate
Sit down

Lull the afternoon away
Sing some songs
Take a nap
Read for awhile
Perhaps a game of ball

The hour gets late
Time to go home
The ants come out
Or chiggers in your pants
A day to remember

I remember the feeling - the time outdoors so wonderful, but the sandy discomfort of going home, ready to wash the grit off.

The family picnics/gatherings, a time for swapping tall tales and ice creams treats, at the designated provincial park, while picking ripe Byng cherries, from the branches. Only concern, was putting away the garbage, as the wasps and hornets swarm around it, seeking out sweet desserts. Sadly, these picnics/gatherings ended with Oma's death, in 1996.

Am I glad picnics are not so popular anymore with our family! Memories of the disasters last long!

Annell4,

Picnics provide an array of great memories, mostly from childhood days.
perhaps its the informality that made the whole experience, a different kind of funtime for all!
