The Sunday Whirligig #158
YOU MAY NOT EVEN KNOW
The ropes are tight around my wrists
I lie face down in the box
Soon enough
I will be in the cemetery
A desert lawn of sorts
Sand and thorny cactus
No need for mowing
Caskets in a row
Join friends and loved ones
Sleeping for eternity
Take nothing with you
No need to unpack
The change will come suddenly
You may not even know

Sunday Wordle #348
SHOULD I CALL/RISK A BUMPY RIDE
I am on the fence
Am not sure what to do
I mark the calendar
And take a bite
Taste the juice
I would like to rinse
The stains from the sheets
Should I offer my sorrow
Or should I try to charm you
Mingle bones with song
Will the ringing of the phone
Startle you
Your limbs stiff
Your words filtered
Should I try again
Should I call
Circle the question
Push the merry-go-round
Hop on
Risk a bumpy ride

Note: Something has happened, words spoken, which cannot be taken back. But still the feelings around it are bad. Will anything we do change what is?

No Sculpture West of the Mississippi
It is said that there is no need for sculpture
In the west
And it is true
With an unknown creator
Earth instillations
Glorious sunsets and sunrises
Man’s futile attempts are laughable
Cannot compare with the grandeur
The variety or scale
Of the west
Best keep sculpture
East of the Mississippi

Waiting on Words/Ladies in Waiting
DISTURB
Annoy
Upset
Off center
We look for the cause
We determine
It is coming from outside
We think we have it
Put our finger on it
Or in truth
It comes from inside
It is always our response
To something we don’t want
We wonder why the universe
Doesn’t check with us
Before it puts an obstacle
In our path
I’ve misplaced my keys
Dinner is late
I question my own choices
And yet they is my own choices
I am here
I can temper my response
Or I can accept
It is all perfect
Not the way
I would have done it
If I were King of the world
But there you have it
I am not King of the world
So I can set my path
I will not be disturbed
When things don’t go my way
I will learn from the puddles
In which I step

I love the closing lines especially. We cant always choose what happens to us, but we choose our response with care.
Oh yes... no need for sculptures with such spectacular land.
I can see that row of caskets sleeping for eternity. I LOVE the line "Mingle bones with song." That is brilliant. I can feel the wondering: will the call help or make things more strained? I know that feeling. Love "the West is like a sculpture garden/" That it is. And I love learning from the puddles in which we step. Sometimes the only way to learn. Your pen is on fire this month, Annell!
"Should I offer my sorrow or should I try to charm you.. Mingle bones with song".. this is so raw with emotion! Potent write.
We do learn from those puddles we step in! Thank you.
Wow annell these are amazing poems each one a delight making me respond in word or gesture of head shake or smile....
'So I can set my path I will not be disturbed When things don’t go my way I will learn from the puddles In which I step '
a fabulous lesson I have learned again and again.
All of these were fantastic! Another wonderful literary visit here.

You did well on all three. Bravo!
Oh how we fail when we think we can sculpture like God. Amazing poetry, each one of them... Thanks for writing!
Again, an amazing trio. I would make a very long comment if I picked each line I like. There are so many, perfect every one :-)
I enjoyed all these, and particularly the sculpture one.
Brilliant writing filled with impactful contemplation.
Wow...a wonderful post. Enjoyed these!
Yes the West is like the most beautiful sculpture garden, better than a museum. I like this poem a lot.
An amazing series of poems. All we can do is make peace with ourselves. I wish you well.
Your poem using the Whirligig words is stellar, Annell. I've been contemplating my own death a lot recently ("Nobody gets out of here alive"), and the poem's powerful ending reminds me that I don't want to know when my own end comes. I hope to blink out like a light.
