Ladies in Waiting, Waiting on Words
LOGICAL
What is really logical after all
Numbers run consecutively
We line up by the beginning letters
Of our last names
We sit at the same desks each day
A round pen in a round hole
The edge of puzzle pieces
Match the edge of puzzle pieces
All other things in the world
Do not seem logical
A leader who is not a leader
In the past
We have been amazed
When a man steps up
Who is just an ordinary man
And he grows to be a
Greater man that he is
I keep waiting
This leader is given every chance
Yet he remains small
His only brilliance
His shiny false hair
So like the Wizard of OZ
We fear he might come out
From behind the curtain
And everyone would see
He is just an ordinary man
Small in every way
There is nothing logical
About him
He is even wearing the King’s
New Clothes

EXISTING IN THE SHADOWS
The shadow came early
Not long after rising
The sun announced a glorious day
A day I had been waiting for
It was not a surprise
Yet it sucked all the color from the world
The moisture from my lips
There was a very loud crash
No one heard
It was my heart breaking
Once again
I remain in the shadows
I breath lightly
I am like an old machine
Rusted to a halt
I sit in the darkness waiting
For some unknown arrival
The building abandoned
The workers have gone home
I make up stores I tell myself
To pass the lonely hours

Taos, New Mexico
My chosen home
Beyond what we might call beautiful
Perhaps there are no words for it
On the mesa
I can see
The sun rises in the east
Above Taos Pueblo
Lights Taos Valley
And the mountains that circle
Sets in the west
Glorious end of day
The low flat light
Crawls over sage brush
Reflects off adobe houses
Where everyday people
Go about their everyday lives

The beauty and magic of your desert calls to me. It must be magical, watching the mountain, and the way the light changes across the desert. Loved this, Annell.
Came back to find two more poems. I definitely agree about the small man. The middle poem touched my heart....the sound of a heart breaking once again.....feeling like an old machine. I am impressed you are writing three poems a day. Wow!
You have painted us a beautiful picture of "your" Taos, New Mexico. I would love to visit and be able to sit and watch those magnificent sun rises and sun sets. Lovely :-)
This is such a gorgeous, gorgeous poem Annell 💖
I like all three, and must applaud you for doing this day after day. Toas sounds, as you describe it, sounds like some mystical place of magic. Heartbreak is always done alone. And the man is so very small in mind and emotions, have to wonder how he lives with himself.

I'm inspired by your use of the word, "logical." It's presently got me stumped. I'm with you all the way when it comes to the small man, a most illogical choice for the leader of the United States...
What scenic views you paint! A ready made travel guide.
I have visited Taos several times. it is indeed a magical place. And your poem does it justice with the beauty in it.
The first two poems are thoughtful, sad and beautiful. The third springs into a different kind of life with all the energy of that palpable love you have for the place, and have thoroughly conveyed.
May the lonely hours pass.
I too have been to Taos. It is a pretty little town, lots of artists artisans, writers, and the like. One of our friend couples spend summers there and use their place to stay while skiing.
New Mexico is a state I want to visit - adobe, sunsets, mountains... poetry all!
Your poetry about place and home always opens my mind to wide vistas, arid landscape and beautiful skies.
The place of the desert will always be exciting to me.
Luv the Sun in the second and third poems
Much🌼love
I reread your 'Existing in the Shadows' poem. I had enjoyed reading it before. Bat after that I watched an episode on The Travel Show where a group had traveled to Anarticta to explore some circulating myths of ghosts of previous explorers making sneaking and mysterious appearances.
Long intro. What relates to this poem though was your second verse where the writer was in the dark in a disfunctional.and deserted building. The crew made observations.and sound spectrum recordings to take home for further research. There was one part of a rhythmical sound patern that spelled in Morse Code "SOS". Just once, one set of letters.
It was Erie working in the long abanded.building.
Spot on for the orange man. Excellent perspective, Annell.
Love,
Pamela
I know I've said this before, Annell, but I do love reading about your chosen home, having never experienced a desert. The Spanish names have a beautiful ring to them. We have no mountains or valleys where I live, so they are also enchanting for me. Thank you for sharing them.
