Poets United -- TRAVERSE THE VERSE/ The Sunday Whirl Wordle 347 -- PRAY TO GOD THAT HE FORGIVE US ALL/ Imaginary garadens with real toads -- THE TEXTURE OF MY LIFE/https://claudetteellinger.wordpress.com

The Sunday Whirl

TRAVERSE THE VERSE
Walk a million miles
Across the sand
Torrid heat
Dress appropriately
Black head to toe
A black umbrella

I saw you once
You burned an image
In my brain
Were you with someone
Or a part of a special sect
What a tale you told
As you walked alone

I confess
There was a spring in your step
Did anyone advise
To check your gear
Was it your first time
In the desert
Your hands were empty
Except for the black umbrella

You return to me
A treat to think you made it all the way
A feat I could not do myself
Perhaps you aligned yourself
With the task and needed nothing else
Dressed in black
With your black umbrella

Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads

PRAY TO GOD THAT HE FORGIVE US ALL
No man is without stain
Be it of any color
For any offence

I cannot say what made the support give way
The ship toppled
The crew drowned

It can happen that way
Pray to God that he forgive us all
No man is without stain

Who is to say
What color is worse
Or do rainbows fade
And broken hearts lose their way

Do sailors return
After their ships sink at sea
Are we all washed clean
White as a new driven snow
Pray to God that he forgive us all

THE TEXTURE OF MY LIFE
The texture of the moment
Can sting like nettles
Of the hour
Can sting like ants or bees
The texture of the morning
Can seem varied
The texture of the afternoon
Cannot be predicted

Can we sum up the texture of the day
Sometimes rough, sometimes smooth
The texture of the night
Can also vary from bumpy to silky
It can be soft like a kitten’s fur
Or is can seem stormy
Keep you awake the whole night through

So many things can effect texture
Disappointment
Grief
Loneliness
And on the flip side of the coin
Happiness
Joy
Togetherness

Texture is based on feelings
We have all experienced them
So when we think of someone
As rough as a cob
Perhaps we will remember
What makes her so

The imagery is strong in your whirl poem, Annell. The Texture of My Life reads like a classic or an adage even. Nicely done!

Beautiful poems today Annell.
Re the prompt for imaginary garden. I really luv stanza 2 for its metaphorical quality. Its levels and depth. Thank you for responding. Your poem is well wrought around the Villion quote you chose

Much🌼love

I find it amazing that you did three poems. I hail and salute you. I especially like that last line about the texture we might judge, rather than attempt to understand,

Each poem so wonderful. The first is my favourite. I love the image of the person in the desert carrying a black umbrella.

I too was captivated by your first poem - that black umbrella is haunting

I enjoyed your poems, how fruitful you are today! I, too, like the man with the black umbrella. As to today's prompt with the toads,
I especially like your words "no man is without stain"and the question " After their ships sink at sea Are we all washed clean"

Are we all washed clean? Truly God reads hearts and who are we to ever know? Lovely poem!

Wow! The "desert heat vs wearing and covered with Black" kept the undertow of this piece very strong.
You must be eating your Wheaties. : ) Another wonderful visit with creative surprises.

I envy your creativity. How wonderful to able to respond to all these prompts. I like the black umbrella but really appreciate too the texture you use in your words. Texture is the lens of your life, I can tell. I enjoyed reading this post so much today. Thank you Annell.

Texture is an incredibly important component in writing. It can add interest. And so many unique variations.

You've done so well here with both poems. Giving texture to things give them new meaning. An apt warning and entreaty in the first poem- May God indeed forgive us.

You burnt the woman with the black umbrella into my brain too. (You don't specify a woman ... but I can see her!) And you did wonderful things with the quote from Villon.

Dressed in black and protected by a black umbrella may not be the most appropriate way to negotiate the wilderness, but everyone has his or her own method for sidestepping obstacles, so who am I to judge? Whatever works!
