LIFE IS SIMPLE/The Sunday Whirl -- Poets United Poets Pantry

LIFE IS SIMPLE

Life is simple
Or so she said
The days like beads
On a string
Polished to a sheen

Life is a game
Children play best
Many grown ups
Have forgotten
How to play
No time for recess

Life is a worn shirt
She mends the seam
Ticks off the list
Of things to be done
That day

Life is the sound you hear
When walking in tall grass
The diamond-back rattles his tail
Still you continue unafraid

Life is the main beam
In the barn
The roofline sags
Like the back of the
Old horse in the field
Fasten the gate behind you

You say, life isn’t so simple
For everyone
You went for waffles
After the prom
Beaten by police
Your face on TV
Much of life depends
On your race

You're right...life is not simple for everyone. I just watched that video you referred to this morning. There is much injustice in this country, and it just is NOT right. Where is the outrage!!

Much of life depends
On your race... that is sadly true..where you are born and as what still seems to matter and determines the trajectory of your life.. when will this change!

Some things in life are simple... like being beaten... that we wish wouldn't be there... some things that are hard should really be simple, like not being beaten.

I love the structure , flow and turn the poem took... it was unexpected but very true.

Interesting reflections in this poem. I especially like the roofline of the barn, sagging like the old horse's back. Very cool.

You brought reality rightly smack in the face in your close. Very incisive annell!

Isn't it amazing that a nation once the envy of so many is no better than many other bigoted nations of the world, who need classes of people to demean whether it be colour of skin, religious preference or language they speak that offends them. Worse still is hating a political party and its followers for just a difference of opinion. Sadly no country now is exempt.

An impactful and important piece. The close is achingly sad - but true.

'...Your face on Tv Much of life depends On your race...'This is sadly so true in so many countries. I think America's case is more overt.

Yes, I'm sure life is all those things. The last verse was a shocker – and unfortunately that situation is not unknown in Australia either, though perhaps more hidden.

and then the last lines jolt us back to remind us that life is not so simple now... :(
