THE SMELL OF HONEYSUCKLE IN THE AIR/Poets United Midweek motif - water

THE SMELL OF HONEYSUCKLE IN THE AIR
The morning as quiet as a tomb
The indigo mountains
Rise on the horizon
And yet...
Up close and personal
The sky clear
Except for a few wispy clouds

Water fills the pond
Can take any shape
Escape through the tiniest crack
Hard to hold

The day perfect for fishing
You said the water churned
Before it was over
Someone heard the cry
But in that moment
There was nothing to be done
You slipped through the veil
Like making another cast

On another perfect day
With honeysuckle in the air
The red cardinals
Who mate for life
Flew near

It is said
We can only live four days
Without water
It was exactly four days
You were dead

Too much water will kill you
You will drown
Too little water you will die
Water and death walk hand in hand

I like the intertwining of Life and Death so effortlessly in this Water poem. A good one.

O, Annell, Too little, too much ... which have we experienced more? I'm afraid we have suffered both, and still sit writing betweeen the cardinal and the mountains.

As poets what else can we do but write in continuity striving for that balance in this journey from life to death
Let the waters remind us of our mortality. Fascinating poem Annell

Much love...

Life and death - you weave them beautifully together. Poignant and brilliant.

We humans walk hand in hand with many things that can be both blessings or banes.

Yes, water and life and death are all combined. We are born in a whoosh of water, and the dying's last wish is for water. Beautiful, Annell. Memories from the heart.

Water water everywhere not a drop to drink. The ending was chilling , like I actually felt goosebumps!
