Morning After/imaginary gardens with real toads

Morning After

Morning after
After what? you ask
A sleepless night
And what was the cause

Sometimes it is hard to tell
It seemed every nerve in my body
Was a jangle
No rest for the weary

Yes, I was tired
But there was something…
Or was it just my body
Running through the day

Or some “old something”
Revisiting the site
Did worry get the best of me
Sometimes it is hard to put your finger

On exactly what it was
The morning broke
The sun shining
Silence is my companion

I am on the brink of beginning
Each new morning
A new beginning
The hands of the clock advance

On imaginary gardens with real toads, we were asked to talk about the present moment.

It’s funny to think that your moment is in the morning and mine in the evening, Annell! I sometimes forget that we’re on opposite sides of the world. Normally I write in the morning but I’ve been out all day and this prompt popped up earlier this evening. It’s strangely comforting to know that I’m not the only one who has sleepless nights and I particularly like the lines:
‘Yes, I was tired
But there was something…
Or was it just my body
Running through the day’.

I like, Annell. A nice 'it's bugging me' poem, but not threatening. "Yes, I was tired But there was something"," puts us on alert and anxious to find out what it was.
I too have sleepless nights. If I'm awake for than 25-30 minutes I get up, with smart phone, iPad, current book I'm reading, and the unfinished Sudoku from another night." I make a cup of decaf and two saltine cracker and peanut butter sandwiches and get settled in a recliner. Then I decide how to use the stuff I brought. Eventually I'm back sleeping in bed, or in the upstairs guest room bed so as to not wake Mrs. Jim.

I am an insomniac from way back. I write at any point of time during the day. I like the way poetry runs throught your day as it does mine.

I love these odd questions that pop up on waking. At least you can make some sense of the questions themselves. For me it's a jumble...I usually don't even know who I am!

Truly, one is always on the brink of beginning. What a lovely way to put it. Thanks so much for this response! All best, k.

I have done this and I usually realize a few days later that an account is overdue, or I forgot to go to an appointment, but I'm an old fogey so that's what we do! You are just going through a practice session!

Oh, those nights seem to come more often as we age. Sleep eludes us. Wonderful perspective here.

Each new morning, we begin again. I love that about mornings!

It's seems many nights send a plague of thoughts, unrest, but we can begin again at sunrise.

When it comes to certain feelings and happenings, there are times that no amount of reflection can let us know the why of it.
